A great way to expand your roleplaying abilities in Dungeons ... Dragons, or any other roleplaying game, is to try and make better characters. Developing a background and personality for your character will give you a better guideline on how to play your character and it will also give your Dungeon Master more hooks for their story and opportunities to role-play. We're going to discuss a few ideas on how to easily create a better D...D character background by using simple plot hooks and personality traits. These methods can be altered to work with other roleplaying games as well.

Pick one thing that the character will die for. This thing should be carefully thought out, as it could easily cause the demise of the character. Maybe your character cannot stand slavery. Whenever he runs into it in his travels he is forced to address it and correct it. And, he will fight to the death to do so. This will be a focal point of the character due to the deadly nature of the characteristic.

Pick three things that your character will always fight for. These three things are things that will instantly cause the character to go into fight mode. He may not fight to the death over these, but he will always address them appropriately. Perhaps the player just can't stand it when people insult him about his short stature. Or maybe he hates it when people make fun of any one of his adventuring comrades.

Choose one thing that your character absolutely fears. This fear is something that will drastically alter how you play the character when he encounters this fear. It could be that the character has a fear of the open sea and will absolutely not travel on boats. Or, maybe he has a fear of fighting in high areas, like on a large bridge or in an open tower.

Pick one characteristic that defines your character to other people. This characteristic is what NPCs or other players usually refer to your character as being. "Yeah that Fighter, he's crazy." A crazy fighter could be someone that fights in a completely unpredictable matter. Perhaps there is method to his madness, but if there is only he apparently knows what it may be.

Create one additional character that is important and somehow related to your character. This could be a meddling uncle that always seems to show up in your business at inconvenient times. Or, it could be a childhood enemy that has followed you much of your life. He's often poked fun at you when you're down, but has also shown an act of heroism on random occasions which leads you to wonder if he's really good, or really bad.

With these seven different characteristics, then one thing that you would die for under any circumstances, picking three reasons you will always fight for, and one thing that you are deathly afraid of, and one characteristic that defines your character personality to other players and NPCs, and designed one character that is important to you, you've instantly created a good start for a D...D character background. It includes your personality and helps with your character's play style. Answering these questions increases the chance for fun and dramatic roleplaying opportunities, without spending hours and hours writing a huge D...D character background.

There music will never go out of style and while it was sad to see some of the go so young, we are at least lucky enough to have their music left behind.

The 17th century saw some of the most incredible music that would ever be created. To think that Air on the G String and Piano Sonata No. 17 in D Minor would still hold up as some of the greatest compositions ever is truly stunning. There is little debate that Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750) is considered to be one of the greatest classical minds that ever put a musical note down on paper.

George Frideric Handel (1685-1759) and Antonio Vivaldi (1678-1741) were also making music during the Baroque Era to create one of the most impressive trio's of composers of any time. Vivaldi's The Four Seasons and Handel?s Messiah are still listed as some of the best compositions of all times. It is hard to imagine that music could ever have a time as rich as this.

The 18th century brought about one of the most unique personalities in classical music. The genius that was Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-1827) was taken away at far too early an age, but oh what an impression he left. It would be hard to pick any one of his Piano Concerto?s to single out as the best as they are all simply incredible. Right there with him was Ludwig Van Beethoven (1712-1773) and Joseph Haydn (1732-1809) to carry on the tradition of yet another trio of musical geniuses to bless a single era.

When the 19th century rolled in, two more Romantic Era composers were just getting started. Frederic Chopin (1810-1849) and Richard Wagner (1813-1883) continued on the tradition of beautiful music being created that would forever be remembered. Such works as Etude in C Sharp Minor, Waltz No. 3 and Die Walkure are still being played in classic concerts throughout the world.

As the Romantic Era was ushered out and the Modern Era was ushered in, two more composers separated themselves from everyone else to set the standard for the 20th century. Aaron Copland (1900-1990) and George Gershwin (1898-1937) were far and away the most influential composers of their day. The Rhapsody in Blue still holds true as one of the greatest works of the era and Copland's influences remain intact to this day.

While the musical world may have many different genre of music, they all have their roots in classical music in some form or another. Regardless of the style of music that you like, if you really pay attention, you can manage to pick out some small influence from these incredible composers. We will be lucky if we happen to see someone step in the 21st century that can make an impression as these composers have on the musical world.
